This week, we’ll examine Netflix’s weekly top 10 numbers in further detail to determine whether TV shows and movies are performing well, terribly, or mediocrely. Welcome back to another top ten analysis. In addition to checking in with the two renewals we recently received and the performance of Ginny & Georgia season 3, this week we’ll look at the premieres of KPOP Demon Hunters and season 1 of The Waterfront.
Note: We will utilize “Complete Viewings Equivalent,” or CVE, which is expressed in millions, in this analysis on Netflix’s hours viewed between June 16th, 2025, and June 22nd, 2025. In other words, we divide the number of hours viewed by the duration of the movies or TV shows that Netflix has stated. Although it’s not an audience metric, it makes it possible to compare movies and television shows more effectively. If they watched the entire movie or season from start to finish, that would be the bare minimum of viewings.
1. KPop Demon Hunters
What is the worldwide reach of K-pop? It’s difficult to predict, but I would have responded “very big” if you had asked me how big the new animated Sony/Netflix film KPop Demon Hunters would be when it premiered. This was supported by a lot of circumstantial evidence, including the fact that the movie did very well in the daily Top 10 internationally and that its songs were featured in a number of music streaming charts. However, the data shows that its launch was merely mediocre, with 9.2M CVEs in its first three days, barely outperforming Spellbound, one of 2024’s failures. Additionally, it falls far short of Vivo, the previous animated movie from Sony/Netflix.
However, given the film’s extremely strong audience reception and the fact that animated pictures typically hold up better over time, there are grounds to be optimistic for the upcoming weeks.

2. Trainwreck: Mayor of Mayhem
The performance of the Trainwreck documentary series will be the subject of an entertaining little summer competition that we will track in the charts over the next few weeks. With 6.4 million CVEs in its first six days, last week’s entry, Mayor of Mayhem, is already outperforming The Astroworld Tragedy.
Nevertheless, we already know which one will prevail in the end: feces Cruise, which was released yesterday (yep, the feces cruise—quite the program). Let’s hope the internet accomplishes what it’s supposed to do. My greatest wish is for Trainwreck: Poop Cruise to top the all-time Top 10.

3. Semi-Soeter is a full hit (for South Africa)
The Afrikaans-language South African film Semi-Soeter is a follow-up to a popular local blockbuster. It has the best debut of any South African non-English-language film, with 3.6 million CVEs in its first three days.

4. Netflix renews Ransom Canyon and Bet.
Additionally, Netflix renewed Bet and Ransom Canyon, two new US programs for 2025, yesterday. Both renewals appear generous at first glance, particularly Bet, which, given its inception, I had assumed would be completely terminated. Its numbers haven’t really improved after 18 days, and a number of reasons other than viewership could account for the renewal: a presumably low budget, a high completion rate, the fact that it was probably commissioned for two seasons from the beginning, Netflix’s altruism, or one Netflix executive challenging another to do so in the most bizarre game of dares.
The renewal makes a little more sense for Ransom Canyon, even though the show was still navigating some uncharted territory. Only The Residence and Pulse have received an official decision for the new 2025 U.S. Netflix series. The others have all been extended. Not bad, six out of eight!

5. The Waterfront
Will a second season of The Waterfront be renewed? With a solid debut of 8.3M CVEs that places it in a favorable position, the series is undoubtedly off to a fantastic start, especially considering today’s renewals announcement, which, quite honestly, decreased the threshold for renewals and the series’ first 4-day launch. The show now has the responsibility of remaining there for the upcoming weeks!

6. Olympo
With only 3.2 million CVEs in its first three days of introduction, Olympo is failing to live up to the high standards set by its legendary predecessor in previous seasons, despite its goal of becoming the next Elite to emerge from Spain. It’s not quite over yet, but that might be plenty for a cautious second season renewal.

7. Ginny & Georgia Viewership Watch
Ginny & Georgia’s third season is still going strong, and after 14 days, the audience decline from Season 2 is still rather small. Indeed, during that time, Season 3 has already overtaken Season 1’s 28-day viewership total.

8. America’s Sweethearts: Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders
The second season of the Dallas Cowboys cheerleader documentary series has already surpassed its debut season with 3.3 million CVEs in its first five days of release.

9. The Great Indian Kapil Show
With higher viewership than when the previous season debuted, the weekly live program The Great Indian Kapil Show is making a big return to India for its third season.

That’s all for this week. Feel free to let us know what you think in the comments below.
